Christmas is nearly here.
I went swimming today for the first time in 6 weeks, after injuring my knee, and managed to do 10 lengths and still be able to walk pain free afterwards, and so felt really good. Tomorrow I am going riding and, weather permitting, hope to go and try some of the machines at the gym in small doses to see how I get on.
Have eaten chocolates this week (given to me at work) and realised that I needed to eat more oats and fruit so that I didn't feel the need to fill gaps with chocolates. This has worked well, and with the increasing exercise, I am hoping to stem any weight gain over Christmas (she says hopefully!).
At last the extreme tension caused by having to drive on sheet ice over the last few days is going to be a thing of the past with the slightly milder weather forecast.
Best wishes and stay safe.

Hi All,
Things are looking up! After doing something extremely painful to my knee last Friday and not being able to hardly walk for several days, I am now nearly sound and certainly in a lot less pain. Unfortunately my brain wants to comfort eat when something hurts so I am going out to stock up on healthy foods tomorrow - I do not need the comfort food any more!
My horse is also now sound after having painful abscesses in 2 of his feet for the last 3 weeks - just picture it - very lame horse being attended to by painfully lame owner helped by hobbling husband with a bad back - how sad is that.
So - we are all on the mend now, and I am looking forward to going to Lingfield races with hubby tomorrow (with free tickets we won in a raffle!!!!).
We had a lovely 'talent' competition at the school where I work this afternoon, in aid of 'Children in Need' and although the adults were rubbish, the children's singing was really fabulous.
Have a good weekend.
Best wishes,
Jas

Hi All,
Took delivery of my new 4 legged friend last Saturday. Thanks Pete, for giving me the confidence in my bodies ability to repair and then get fit enough to rejoin my friends out hacking in the beautiful countryside in Sussex. Very hectic now - rushing round non-stop getting everything done before and after work.
Made a point of thinking positive, happy thoughts all day - it really does put you in a calmer place. Its true that the duck in your brain wants to drag up all the little anxieties we have, and spoil day to day life. Habits really must and can be changed, which reminds me that I must concentrate on eating more slowly (an annoyingly difficult habit to break).
Best wishes to everyone,
Jas

I love trying new food/ supplements to see if they help with minor symptoms, and on Sunday I bought a whole box of broccoli (which I love) for £1 !!!! Also trying something which was on a podcast - cod liver oil and evening primrose oil for hot flushes - it will be amazing if they work. Also found that if I drink more than the odd cup of coffee/tea now (I cut right down on these) it makes me hyper, which is interesting.
By the way, the (real) little duck that I rescued is beginning to use her bad leg again, but now my horse is lame (no peace for the wicked).
Have enjoyed reading all the interesting blogs tonight - keep it up.
Best wishes,
Jas

Things to be grateful for;
1. My cold/ chest infection has finally gone.
2. I moved offices today (which I hate doing) and it all went well and I am quite happy in my new space.
3. Best of all - I took the duck I rescued to the vets tonight and he said she should pull through - he gave her 2 injections and she promptly turned round and bit me (or should I say 'beaked' me).
4. I was so busy today that I haven't eaten any snacks at all !!
Need to drink more water tomorrow, eat slower, move faster, and listen to relaxation tape in evening.
Best wishes to all,
Jas

OK - well I was looking forward to going to the exercise class with Pete and Chris tonight after getting over my chest infection which stopped me going last week, and well you won't believe what happened tonight - I was just rushing round after work getting the animals fed when someone up the stables stopped me and said - 'one of the stables ducks is in a bad way'. So guess who had to catch it up, examine its supposedly broken leg (a horse fell over it) and then bring it home and make it comfortable in a cage until the morning, by which time it was 6.30pm. Next week I will let nothing stand( or waddle)in my way, as I feel my fitness is dropping off - although I did do some press ups yesterday and this morning (but not many)!

Hi folks,
I am back on the programme, thanks to the lovely kind Mr Cohen and his able deputy - the superfit Chris P. - they both work our group very hard at our recently started exercise sessions on Mondays!
A little recap:-
I have carried on all summer with- no stimulants / lots of walking/ eating healthy food / using relaxation tapes/ making some goals each day/week. I try very hard to eat slowly and drink enough water each day, and also breathe more deeply.
I have seriously slipped on the snacking front, on several occasions, and disappointingly, have not been able to go to the gym/swimming as much as I was, due to working 2 hrs overtime each day since August in order to refill the coffers (which, don't get me wrong, I am very pleased to have).
Any tips for fitting in more sessions during a busy week? - especially when my 2 little dogs want lots of my time, unsurprisingly.
Has anyone got any experience of using one or two magnesium tablets to help with sleeping? My impression is that they do help, but not sure if it is good to take them regularly.
Kind regards,
JAS

Hi,
Good to concentrate on one tool at a time, and really good to have started with eating slowly.
Also working on staying positive with a 'can do' approach, and not letting minor blips put me off for too long.
Enjoy your summer.
Best wishes,

Hey, Guess what,
I can do lunges!!! I had never tried them properly because I assumed I wouldn't be able to do them as my knees creak and groan everytime I do any exercises involving bending them. Well, I watched pete's video the other day and tried one or two whilst standing next to a chair for a bit of support and I found I could do them. I still can't beleive it and have to keep doing more to prove to myself its true!! Wow.

Been practising some new skills/ tools / habits recently-
1) Being kinder to myself when I don't feel quite well so not energetic enough to go to gym (had an ear infection and felt grotty).
2) Keeping going and recovering from wobbles when I felt fat because I hadn't been to gym for a few days.
3) Breathing deeper as I have come to realise that I often shallow breathe.
4) Learn't how to make a smaller smoothie instead of the huge ones I had been having.
Hopefully back to gym tomorrow. Looking forward to next big challenge!!!
Best wishes to everyone,
Jas

Enjoyed reading all the interesting and motivational blogs today - fascinating how we all suffer some of the same 'issues' - eg boring jobs, hating clothes shopping, eating when fed up etc.
I had to fight off Mrs Blackbird this morning from my redcurrants !!! I walked down the garden to pick redcurrants to put on my muesli with live yoghurt for breakfast and she was under the netting stripping off the berries - so I took some and then took off all the netting so that she didn't get caught up in it.
Went to gym after work and it was very therapeutic to pound out my work frustrations (mainly computer caused) on the treadmill and exercise bike and cross trainer. Computers are great until they go wrong.
Just watched an amazing programme on TV about the disection of a huge whale (not for the squemish) but really interesting.
I am going to write EAT SLOWLY on my dinner plate tomorrow so that I REMEMBER to eat slowly.
Good luck to everyone,
Jas

Hi all - hope everyone is enjoying the lovely summer weather.
My scores are as follows:
1. giving yourself credit 6
2. shutting the duck up 8
3. eating slowly 5
4. being very patient 7
5. being positive 7
6. thinking before you eat 9
7. using the hunger scale 8
8. eating a balanced diet 9
9. focusing on your goal 7
10. drinking plenty of water 7
11. eating more nutricious food 9
Some areas need working on, especially eating slowly, quantities of food, and keeping positive. Exercising going well, but doing more swimming in this heat and less in the gym. Feeling fit and noticing everything is easier in life if you are fitter. Smoothies with ice cubes crushed up in them are delicious in the heat.
Best wishes

Sometimes, and for no good reason at all, I lose my zest to get up and do something energetic or useful. I need to think of a list of tips for ' getting going again', to keep alongside my list of 'distraction strategies'.
Anyway - I have just listened to Clive's podcast which was very inspiring, and I am going to change my 'reminders' to include some of his clever words (eg every journey starts with the first step, and don't delude yourself about how much eating/ exercise you are really doing). Also - very much liked the tip from one of the blogs I have just read (very sorry- forgot whose it was) saying that today is the youngest you are ever going to be in your life - brilliant (another reminder?)
Enjoy the warm weather.
Best wishes,
Jas

Its funny how some days you just don't feel like exercising do you. Well yesterday I didn't feel like exercising, but went to the pool after work anyway thinking I would just do a few lengths and a bit of stretching. Well - it was quite quiet there so I started swimming up and down and after a few lengths I carried on and did a few more, and then a few more, and suddenley the mindset changed and I felt really good and carried on to do 40 lengths, and felt very satisfied afterwards and not at all tired. Weird the tricks your mind plays on you.
Then this morning, I weighed myself and found that I was finally moving off my plateau and losing weight again!!!!
Had a lovely quiet peaceful ride with my friend this morning on her 2 lovely horses - down a disused railway track for miles and back through the woods - there is something about riding a horse that is good for the soul.
Have a great weekend.
Best Wishes

Eating slowly - is my goal for today and the rest of my life.
Portion control needs some work, and being aware of little snacks creeping in. Went to gym yesterday, and will go swimming this afternoon. Also - need to up my water now it is warmer weather.
